Comicpalooza 2017
Comicpalooza 2017 is upon us!
I will be in booth 2632, in the middle-rear of Hall C, smack in the middle of the convention center, right next to NASA:
It’s going to be a great year.
This Felicia Day will be there talking about the new season of MST3K, cosplayers will abound, and there will be something for everyone, from celebrity audographs and photo ops to art, to “working” light sabers. If you’ve never been, come on out, it’s a thing to behold.
My 2017 Panel Schedule:
Friday
11:30 am to 12:30 pm The Writer’s Guide to Crossing Genres :: 370E
Romantic suspense. Urban fantasy. Weird Westerns. Clearly, combining the best of different bookshelves can yield beautiful results – but what are the dangers of crossing genres, and how do you market your hybrid work when nobody seems to know how to classify it?
Saturday
11:30 am to 12:30 pm Plotting and Pacing a Short Story :: 370F
Short fiction can be especially challenging for the speculative writer. Many short stories, however, are more powerful than entire novels, and often writers work better under the constriction of word limits. Panelists will discuss how to construct a secondary world, dynamic characters and a fully realized plot in less than 8,000 words, or less than 10 pages in a graphic novel.
1:30 pm to 2:30 pm The Science of Science Fiction :: 372D
What makes good Science Fiction? Is science actually required? How much? Panelists discuss various aspects and examples.
Sunday
4:00 pm to 5:00 pm The Rise of AI in Science Fiction :: 370D
Science fiction sometimes emphasizes various aspects of AI, including AI dominance, human dominance and sentient AI. Participate in this lively discussion about defining artificial intelligence, growing technology for AI and fears about AI displacing humanity. Panelists will discuss differing theories of how this all might happen.
